Energy Connect – formerly the Joint Radio Company (JRC) – is the UK telecoms centre of expertise for the energy sector. As an independent, not-for-profit, industry-owned organisation, we fulfil a number of technical roles as we work to develop the operational telecoms backbone needed for more stable and resilient future energy systems.
Energy Connect brings the energy industry together to secure the spectrum, connectivity, technologies and expertise required to meet both today's operational needs and to enable the increasingly distributed, digitalised and flexible energy system of the future. Owned by the energy networks, we work with our members to design and deploy the telecommunications backbone for a resilient energy system; connecting people, assets and control systems to enable the safe, secure and reliable operation, restoration and evolution of critical energy infrastructure.
We work with technology providers and academia on innovative solutions to harness the power of fast-changing telecoms technologies for the energy sector. We ensure the efficient use of radio frequency spectrum for the energy networks across the UK, enabling network operators to access the spectrum they need to deploy the latest wireless capabilities.
