EMF Compliance Assessments
Energy Connect conducts desktop electromagnetic field (EMF) radiation assessments against ICNIRP guidelines and Ofcom licence requirements, giving our members clear, site-specific evidence to support regulatory compliance.
International EMF regulations
Any wireless system using the radio frequency spectrum generates electromagnetic fields (EMF).
Exposure to very high EMF levels can be harmful. International guidelines are in place, published by the International Commission for Non-Ionising Radiation Protection (ICNIRP), to ensure radio services are operated in a way that does not adversely affect people’s health. These guidelines include internationally recognised limits on EMF exposure to protect the general public and workers on site.
In addition, Ofcom has introduced an EMF licence condition requiring radio licence holders to ensure radiation from any transmitting equipment does not exceed the published safety limits set out by ICNIRP.
Site radiation assessments
All energy network operators need to have a clear understanding of the radiation hazards associated with any radio systems deployed on their site.
Energy Connect has specialist expertise in EMF hazard assessment, enabling us to predict EMF radiation levels associated with any radio equipment on any site, to ensure it falls within safe limits.
This service enables our members to ensure they are compliant with the Control of EMF at Work (CEMFAW) regulations to protect both staff and public on site. The servcie is especially valuable to DNOs that share sites with third parties, where they may not have a full picture of all the EMF-emitting radio assets on site. By assessing and reporting on EMF levels across a site, we help to assure members that they are compliant with all ICNIRP regulations and Ofcom licence conditions.
