Planning new radio networks
Energy Connect offers comprehensive radio planning services for mission-critical operational telecoms systems.
We have network planning and design expertise across all frequencies and technologies, including private mobile (DMR / PMR), LTE, scanning telemetry and microwave links. We use advanced radio planning tools to develop networks to meet target coverage objectives – whether that’s secure coverage across a discrete site, emergency voice connectivity over a wide area or telemetry coverage across the country. Our services span everything from initial scoping to full detailed system design and ongoing support, through to commissioning.
End-to-end support for radio planning
Many radio planning projects begin with a ‘dimensioning’ exercise to establish the number of sites needed to achieve the required coverage area for a given service type – so we can develop a nominal budget for the scheme.
This provides the foundation for the detailed planning phase, where we develop meticulous site-by-site plans, taking into account any site restrictions and equipment decisions to establish the likely coverage required by the network. We continue to provide support throughout the build and roll-out process, to ensure the final system delivers the connectivity and coverage needed. This may involve making iterations and adaptations to our plans in response to site conditions and other challenges.
Optimising existing networks
As well as planning new radio networks, we help to optimise existing networks by fine-tuning sites, extending coverage by adding new sites, adjusting site parameters or introducing new technologies.
For an existing scanning telemetry network, for example, this may involve adding new outstations to an existing network or identifying additional frequencies for capacity management. Our specialists can design and coordinate any new assets into the system to ensure mature radio networks continue to provide the connectivity and performance required as energy systems evolve.
