Infrastructure Design and Equipment Evaluation
Energy Connect helps utility operators to investigate and procure the equipment and technologies they need to build operational telecoms networks. We offer impartial guidance on radio frequency (RF) network design, technology selection and equipment strategies.
Expert, impartial advice
Our consultancy support helps members to develop telecom solutions using available systems and spectrum. We use our expertise and knowledge to advise our members on choosing the optimum radio solutions for their particular needs.
We help procurement teams by highlighting the required equipment parameters, assets and systems to solve their radio communications challenges. Crucially, Energy Connect is fully technology agnostic and vendor neutral, meaning we advise members on the ideal solutions without bias, always focusing on the operational needs, priorities and preferences of the individual organisation.
Guidance from a unique perspective
Our unique position at the intersection of energy and telecoms enables us to provide a valuable perspective on the application of wireless capabilities to solve energy-sector challenges.
We have a firm grasp of the niche requirements of operational telecoms for energy systems, enabling us to offer impartial advice on everything from suitable technologies to security considerations, compliance and safety.
Putting plans into practice
Once we have planned a radio network to meet specific coverage requirements, we continue to support DNOs or GDNs with the practical implementation of that plan.
We assess the performance and specifications of different assets, such as antennas, transmitters and end-user devices, so we can recommend the right equipment for each network.
Support for network delivery
We help project implementation teams to ensure that radio network plans can be delivered on the ground.
We help to develop technical solutions for specific problems. For example, we have worked with one DNO and a radio manufacturer to develop a new radio that optimised the use of an existing frequency band by using 5G.
